Chex Villa is a fifty mins drive from Faro airport or a three hour drive from Lisbon. Car hire is pretty easy and cars can be collected on-site at the airport. We use a company called Zest (if you need any help please call us). You don't need a car if you're not thinking of doing much travelling so there are transfers available from the airport.

There are 2 great supermarkets in luz; The Baptista and the Spar. Baptista have just opened a small fish market also. A nice bit of swordfish is always a treat on the barbecue!

If you are into fish then you should take an early morning trip into Lagos and visit the impressive fish market on the front for first pickings of the mornings catch. You won't believe the amount of different fresh fish you can buy and it's great value.

There is a bigger supermarket on the way into Lagos called The Inter Marche which is probably your best bet for the big shop as it will work out cheaper. We stock up there and then nip down to the Spar or Baptista for the essentials like bread and milk.

LOCAL INFO

There's a local bank that's always open and very friendly.  There's also cash points around the village.

Luzdoc is an amazing place - god forbid you need any emergency health treatment - but if you do they are brilliant, yes we have had to use them! Again their details should be on a board in the house.

Restaurants are plentiful in Luz! Some to look out for:

  • A Concha (on the promenade)

  • The Dolphin (South African)

  • Look (Steakhouse next to Kelly's Bar)

  • Alloro (Italian in Vila Baia)

  • Barroca (Cocktails and live music)

  • The Galley (affordable set menu overlooking the beach)

  • The Fort (bit more upmarket, lovely building)

  • The Saffron (best Indian in our opinion!)

There should be some leaflets and cards in the house for you to look at.

THE HOUSE

Bedrooms

The house has two bedrooms, each with a bathroom.

The master bedroom has a King size bed, plenty of wardrobes and storage. It also has its own bathroom which was refurbished in May 2018 with a new, large walk in shower. There is an ironing board and in the wardrobe if you really feel the desire to iron on holiday!

Cots are available for babies on request and the master room is plenty big enough for it.

The second bedroom has twin beds that can be made in to a King if required. Again, there is plenty of wardrobe space, drawers and a dressing table. It also has an en suite with shower. This bedroom opens directly on to the pool terrace.

Kitchen

The kitchen is fully loaded:

  • Washing Machine

  • Dishwasher

  • Refrigerator

  • Freezer

  • Hob

  • Oven

  • Microwave

  • Toaster

  • Kettle

  • Plates etc

  • Cutlery

And usually there'll be oils, sauces and condiments from other guests. We encourage people to leave good stuff and if you finish something then replace it if required. It really is home from home!

There is also a second fridge in the courtyard outside the master bedroom for the most important bits and pieces - the beer and wine!

Lounge

The lounge has everything you need:

  • Two sofas

  • Coffee table

  • Television

  • DVD Player

  • Table and chairs

There is a bi-folding door leading outside which opens the lounge up giving a wonderful feeling of open space bringing the sunshine in to the house - with a glorious view of the sea.

Top Terrace with Juliet Balcony

Just off the lounge there is a top terrace and Juliet Balcony where you can sit and enjoy your morning coffee or evening wine overlooking the stunning Luz Bay.

Main Terrace

The personal outside space is impressive because it's a townhouse you do get more space than just a balcony. On the top terrace you have your own personal table and chairs, sun umbrella and a few planters.

We do have a BBQ you can use on this terrace and there is a brick built BBQ in the pool house on the pool terrace below.

Courtyard

There is a small courtyard separating the two bedrooms with a washing line and a utility area with a washing machine, sink, a bar area and a second fridge.

Pool Terrace

It is a communal pool terrace shared by the six houses. And because we only have the six houses, it's usually quiet. It's totally secure and only available for the use of residents

We have four of our own sunbeds and there are some communal table and chairs if you want to eat or entertain around the pool - please don't use glass by the pool, there should be plastic glasses and plates in the kitchen.

The pool is massive compared to pools in most condominiums and the kids love it. There's plenty of space and it's ideal for an early morning or late afternoon swim.

There is a small pool house with a brick built BBQ you can use.

Towels/Linen

Hand, bath and pool towels are all provided.

Fresh linen will be on the beds and if you book a 14 night holiday, they  will be changed after week one.

If you'd like any more cleaning or maid service they can be arranged at an extra cost.

The Beaches/Coast

Luz beach is a ten min walk. On the way it's downhill - therefore, it's uphill on the way back!

There is a lovely promenade with restaurants, cafes, and a few shops. Enough for a bit of interest and nice walk but nothing noisy or overbearing - it s a perfect family resort.

There is a huge, flat safe golden beach with lots of water sports and beds & parasols available for hire.

Lagos is a five minute drive or taxi. It has a large Marina with great bars and cafes. You can book fishing trips, boat trips (around the famous caves) and dolphin safaris.

There are a couple of great beaches:

Praia da Batata is nestled between The Forte da Ponta da Bandeira and some amazing rock formations. It's great for snorkeling and kayaking in and out of the caves.

Meia Praia is just miles of golden sand with lots of beautiful seafood restaurants.

Dona Anna and Porto do Mos are also two idyllic beaches worthy of a visit.

The West Coast is a twenty minute drive and there are many beaches stretching up the coast. We call it Cornwall in the sun! It's rugged coastline with the Atlantic ocean crashing onto the golden beaches make it a haven for surfers.

There are probably another ten amazing beaches between Luz and the West Coast to explore if you get time. We'd recommend that you take a look at Burgau (next one along from Luz) and Salema (next to Burgau).
